2027: Dickson cautions Atiku, Amaechi, El-Rufai over new political coalition

Date:

Former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has issued a cautionary message to prominent political figures involved in forming a new opposition coalition, urging them to reflect on the consequences of past political alliances.

The warning comes as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai lead efforts to establish a new political front.

The trio, along with other political heavyweights, gathered in Abuja on Saturday to celebrate Amaechi’s 60th birthday.

During the event, Atiku described himself, Amaechi, and El-Rufai as “conspirators,” united by their shared opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He emphasized the growing strength of the coalition and its resolve to challenge the current government.

In a pointed response, Dickson advised the coalition leaders to tread carefully, reminding them of the consequences of their previous alliance that ousted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former President Goodluck Jonathan from power in 2015.

He noted that the outcome of that political move has not benefited Nigerians as intended and urged the current coalition members to consider the broader national interest before making similar decisions.

He said, “When I came in here and climbing up here, I’ve seen a lot of you. And as my brother said, there are a number of you who are expert conspirators, who know how to assemble coalitions and then take out governments, as you did to my party in 2015.

“And when you did so, particularly to a clueless government, so-called, now 11 years down the line, we thought that there would have been no weaponization of poverty and that all the challenges of Nigeria would have been gone.

“And the only advice I can give, not being a professional coalition builder and conspirator as some of you are, is at this time, shine your eyes.”
