The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has slammed Yoruba Nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho a ₦5 billion lawsuit against, in an Oyo State High Court.

Adams alleges Igboho of unlawfully recording and publicising a private phone conversation between him and another party, an act he claims has severely tarnished his reputation.

In the suit, M/1006/2024, Adams seeks to uphold his fundamental rights as outlined in Section 37 of Nigeria’s amended 1999 Constitution, which safeguards the right to privacy.

He claims that the unauthorised release of private conversations is “unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional,” describing Igboho’s actions as “reckless and damaging” to his esteemed position.

The recorded conversation, which Adams asserts was shared on social media in April 2024, has caused him “serious embarrassment.”

He contends that his private rights were violated and is pursuing exemplary damages to rectify the perceived harm.

This case raises critical questions about privacy rights in Nigeria, testing the extent to which individuals can record and disseminate conversations without the consent of all parties involved.
