ICC renovation: You don’t have good taste – Wike blasts critics

Date:

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has lambasted those criticising the amount of money spent on the rehabilitation of the International Conference Centre, Abuja, saying they do not have good taste.

Wike made this statement on Friday when he defended the money spent on the renovation.

A number of Nigerians have criticized the amount spent on the conference centre. Others have also faulted the decision to name the facility after President Bola Tinubu, arguing that it should have been named after ex-military Head of State Ibrahim Babangida.

Wike said everything in the conference centre was changed except the block work.

According to him, though N240 million was spent in building the conference centre in 1991 during Babangida’s regime, a lot has changed in the prices of commodities hence the sum of N39 billion spent on the renovation of the conference centre.

Breaking.ng reports that President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday commissioned the refurbished International Conference Centre, Abuja, which was renamed after Tinubu.

“Those criticising the amount of money spent on the rehabilitation of the International Conference Centre don’t have good taste.

“The only thing in that International Conference Centre that was not changed is just the block work. Everything in that Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre was changed,” the FCT minister said.
