City crush Juventus 5-2 to top Group H, dodge Madrid clash

Date:

Manchester City delivered a commanding performance against Juventus, securing a decisive 5-2 victory that established them as Group H winners and sent a strong message to their Club World Cup competitors while potentially steering clear of a Real Madrid matchup in the knockout phase.

The English champions opened the scoring early when Jeremy Doku capitalized on excellent setup play from Rayan Ait-Nouri to find the net with a well-executed finish.

However, City’s advantage proved short-lived as goalkeeper Ederson’s mistake allowed Teun Koopmeiners to level the score just two minutes later, handing Juventus an unexpected lifeline.

Pep Guardiola’s squad quickly reasserted their dominance, retaking the lead when Pierre Kalulu unfortunately deflected the ball into his own goal. The second half saw substitute Erling Haaland extend City’s advantage to 3-1, putting the match firmly in their control.

The scoring continued as Phil Foden added a fourth goal, followed by Savinho’s spectacular long-range effort that effectively ended Juventus’s hopes of a comeback.

Despite Dusan Vlahovic managing to pull one back for the Italian side in the closing stages, City’s comprehensive victory was never in doubt.

This emphatic win crowned Manchester City as the sole team to achieve a perfect record through the group stage, having claimed maximum points from all three matches while demonstrating their credentials as serious contenders for the tournament title.
