Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has stepped down as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately.
The former Kano State Governor cited health concerns as the reason for his abrupt resignation, saying he intends to focus on his personal well-being.
Ganduje, who assumed office as APC chairman in August 2023, led the party through a turbulent period marked by internal divisions and public criticism. His resignation comes less than two years into his tenure.
While his resignation letter attributes the decision solely to health issues, party insiders suggest mounting internal pressure and unresolved disputes may have contributed to his exit.

Allegations of financial misconduct have also surfaced in recent months, with some party members accusing his office of imposing excessive financial demands.
One of the flashpoints involved complaints from aspirants seeking APC tickets for area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who protested what they described as unaffordable nomination fees.
Ganduje previously served as Governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023 before taking the reins of the APC during a critical phase of party reorganization.
His departure leaves a leadership vacuum in the ruling party, sparking fresh speculation about the direction the APC may take ahead of future elections.
As of now, the APC has not released an official statement on the resignation, further fueling uncertainty within the party’s ranks.
