IED blasts leave four dead, others injured in Yobe

Date:

At least four persons have reportedly lost their lives and over a dozen others have been injured following two separate improvised explosive device (IED) attacks in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

According to Zagazola Makama, a publication that monitors insurgency activities in the Lake Chad Basin, the first explosion took place on Friday morning along the Goniri–Buni Yadi road near Bultaram village. The incident occurred when a pickup van transporting traders to Buni Yadi’s weekly market hit an IED.

Three victims were confirmed dead upon arrival at the Yobe State Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, while 18 others were reportedly injured and taken for medical care.

Later the same day, a second blast occurred nearby when a cyclist reportedly triggered another IED. The rider was rushed to Buni Yadi General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

However, the Yobe State Police Command provided a different account. According to its spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim, “two people were injured in the incidents.”

He identified Bultaram village as a frequent target of insurgent activities and stated that members of Boko Haram are suspected to be behind the attacks. “The area is a known hotspot for terrorist attacks,” he said.

Abdulkarim added that security and emergency personnel, including bomb disposal experts and local vigilantes, have been deployed for clearance and investigation.

“Investigation is ongoing to uncover the details of the explosions,” he noted, emphasizing that “the insurgents responsible are going to face the full wrath of the law.”
