Aminu Dantata honoured with funeral prayer in Kano, to be buried in Saudi Arabia

A special Islamic funeral prayer, known as Salatul Ga’ib, was held in Kano on Saturday in honour of the late business icon and philanthropist, Aminu Dantata, who passed away in Dubai at the age of 94.

The prayer took place at the Umar Bin Khattab Mosque in Kano metropolis and was led by Ibrahim Khalil, Chairman of the Kano State Council of Ulamas.

It was attended by thousands of mourners, including top dignitaries such as Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, reflecting the widespread respect and admiration Dantata commanded.

Though he died abroad, Dantata is expected to be buried in Madina, Saudi Arabia, in accordance with his final wishes.

Describing the deceased as a man of deep faith and immense generosity, Khalil said Dantata “lived a life dedicated to service, humility, and the upliftment of others.”

Until his death, Aminu Dantata remained one of Nigeria’s most influential business leaders. He significantly expanded his family’s legacy into a wide-ranging commercial empire spanning construction, finance, manufacturing, agriculture, and oil and gas.

Beyond business, he was celebrated for his philanthropy, having funded schools, hospitals, mosques, and social development projects across northern Nigeria through his foundation and personal donations.
