The Plateau State House of Assembly has elected a new Speaker, Daniel Nanloong, representing Mikang State Constituency, following the resignation of Gabriel Dewan from the role.
Nanloong, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Majority Leader during the 9th Assembly, was unanimously elected on Wednesday during an emergency session held at the Old Government House in Jos, where the Assembly is temporarily located.

The shift in leadership occurred shortly after a behind-closed-doors meeting that included Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Dewan, and other key lawmakers.
Deputy Speaker Gwotta Ajang presided over the session, overseeing the formal transition.
Dewan, the only representative of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the Assembly, stepped down in what analysts describe as an effort to ease persistent political tension in the state legislature.
