Abba Moro reaffirms loyalty to PDP, rejects coalition speculation

Date:

Senate Minority Leader and lawmaker representing Benue South, Abba Moro, has publicly declared his continued allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dismissing any rumours suggesting he might join a political coalition.

In a video shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, Moro emphasized his long-standing relationship with the PDP, describing himself as one of its founding members.

“I want to make it very, very clear here, I joined the People’s Democratic Party in 1998 at its formative year, and so I think I am qualified to see myself as a founding member of the PDP,” he said.

He recounted his early political journey, stating that he was elected chairman of Okpokwu Local Government Council in Benue State during the local elections of December 8, 1998, and was sworn in on May 29, 1999. Since then, he has served the local government in various capacities, including as ALGON chairman in Benue State.

Moro stressed that throughout his political career, he has never left the PDP or joined any other party.

“I have never defected to another party. I have never joined another party. And as I am talking to you now, I have never defected,” he said.

“I am a bona fide member of PDP. I am not joining any coalition. I have not joined any coalition. I don’t intend to join any coalition.”

He also issued a caution to those forming alliances out of dissatisfaction, noting that Nigeria deserves committed leadership and not reactionary political moves.

“And quite frankly, I think that we should approach Nigeria with a serious mind of electing people who are prepared to govern this country,” the senator said.

“I think it is inappropriate to begin to take decisions based on grievances, based on failed expectations arising from frustrations of rising expectations.”

He encouraged citizens and politicians to work within existing party structures and systems to address national challenges.

“And so today, I want to encourage all of us to utilise existing platforms to run elections,” he said.

He acknowledged the frustrations of many Nigerians regarding current policies but stressed that collective political frustration should not lead to desperate alliances.

“I know that there are some limitations. There are some concerns about some of the policies of the present administration. I know that people are hurting. I know that people think that enough has not been done.

“But I think politics of gang-up is not a solution to our problems. And so I think that if we are heading in the wrong direction, we should be able to trace our steps and head in the right direction.”

It will be recalled that on May 15, Moro described PDP members defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as “sinners” in search of political redemption.
