Linda Yaccarino steps down as CEO of X after two-year tenure

Date:

Linda Yaccarino, the Chief Executive Officer of Elon Musk’s social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), has announced her resignation after serving in the role for two years.

Her decision was made public via a post on the platform Wednesday, though she did not disclose a specific reason for stepping down. Yaccarino pointed to a new phase for X following its recent integration with Musk’s artificial intelligence firm, xAI.

“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of 𝕏,” Yaccarino posted.

She reflected on her initial discussions with Musk, noting the opportunity to help realize his vision for the platform.

“When #elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company.

“I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”

In her farewell message, Yaccarino applauded the team behind X for its collective efforts in revitalizing the business, rebuilding trust among advertisers, and emphasizing user safety.

“I’m incredibly proud of the X team, the historic business turnaround we have accomplished together has been nothing short of remarkable.

“We started with the critical early work necessary to prioritise the safety of our users, especially children, and to restore advertiser confidence.

“This team has worked relentlessly from groundbreaking innovations like Community Notes, and, soon, X Money to bringing the most iconic voices and content to the platform.

“Now, the best is yet to come as X enters a new chapter with #xai.”

Describing X as a platform for inclusive dialogue and cultural influence, she credited its evolution to users, business collaborators, and staff.

She described the platform as “truly a digital town square for all voices and the world’s most powerful culture signal,” adding, that it couldn’t have been achieved without users, business partners, and the team.

Yaccarino, who previously served as an advertising executive at NBC Universal, assumed leadership of X in June 2023, following Musk’s brief stint as interim CEO after his $44 billion acquisition of the platform in late 2022.
