Social media influencer Okuneye Idris, better known as Bobrisky, faced a dramatic turn of events when he was removed from a KLM flight heading to London and detained by immigration officials late Thursday night.
He took to Instagram to inform his followers about the incident, claiming he suffered injuries during a confrontation with the officers.
Bobrisky alleged that his detention was orchestrated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), posting, “Nigerians, I need your help. The EFCC just arrested me, and I’m badly injured.”
This incident follows a prior encounter on October 22, when Bobrisky was intercepted at the Sème border while reportedly attempting to flee the country.
The controversy surrounding him began in April 2024, after the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced him to six months in prison for currency-related offences.
Although officially held at Kirikiri Prison, Bobrisky was alleged to have spent only three weeks there before being discreetly moved to a private location. This led to speculation of bribery involving a ₦15 million payment to officials for preferential treatment.
The situation intensified in late September 2024 when social media figure VeryDarkMan released an audio recording allegedly featuring Bobrisky, where he purportedly claimed that music artist Falz and his father, Femi Falana, a lawyer, had approached him in prison to negotiate a ₦10 million payment for a presidential pardon.
In response, Falana and Falz sent a cease-and-desist letter on October 16, demanding a retraction and apology for what they labelled defamatory remarks.
Bobrisky, however, denied these allegations, asserting that he is not responsible for the leaked audio and calling on the Falana family to seek accountability from VeryDarkMan instead.
