A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail of N10 million each to 72 individuals charged over their involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protests.
Presiding Judge Obiora Egwuatu ruled that each defendant must provide two sureties of equal amount.
One surety must be a civil servant of grade level 15 or higher with a verifiable address within the court’s jurisdiction, while the other must be the defendant’s parent.
Initially, 76 defendants—primarily minors—were scheduled for arraignment. During the proceedings, the children, appearing frail and malnourished, were called to enter their pleas. Due to limited space in the dock, some stood outside, while others huddled together.
Four minors collapsed in the courtroom and were rushed out for medical attention, prompting the judge to briefly suspend proceedings. When the session resumed, the prosecution requested that the four affected minors be excluded from the charges. The remaining defendants then entered pleas of not guilty.
The 76 individuals were arrested in Abuja, Kaduna, Gombe, Jos, Katsina, and Kano and face charges of treason and other offences.
