The victims, identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa, were reportedly assaulted by their fellow students using improvised metal weapons locally referred to as “Gwale-Gwale.”

Providing an update on the case, police spokesperson Abdullahi Kiyawa confirmed on Thursday that the suspects are undergoing questioning to establish the extent of their involvement.

“Eleven students were arrested over the incident, and the investigation is ongoing to find out the level of their individual involvement,” Haruna said in a message to Channels Television.

Kiyawa assured the public that the police would ensure justice is served and pledged thorough handling of the investigation.

“We are treating this matter with utmost seriousness. The culprits will be brought to book once investigations are complete,” he added.

In response to the shocking development, Kano State Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, has ordered a comprehensive investigation.

The directive was delivered by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Mohammad, during a condolence visit to the school on Wednesday.

“The Ministry of Education is deeply saddened by this unfortunate event. We have launched an immediate investigation and will work closely with security agencies to prevent such occurrences in the future,” Mohammad said during the visit.

A school staff member, who requested anonymity, expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

“We never expected anything like this. It’s heartbreaking to lose such young lives in such a violent manner,” the teacher said.

The local community is demanding swift justice and stronger safety protocols in schools to prevent further tragedies. The deceased students’ remains have been taken to the Bichi General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The police has called for calm, urging the public to allow legal processes to unfold. In the meantime, the school remains under close surveillance as investigations proceed.
