A senior lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, has died during an alleged sexual encounter.
The incident involved a 22-year-old 200-level student of the institution, identified as Gloria Samuel.
The event transpired on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at a hotel in Anyigba. The hotel manager subsequently reported the incident to the police.
Ms. Samuel was taken into custody and has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

SP William Ovye Aya, the spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, confirmed the incident, describing it as “unfortunate.”
He added that an autopsy has been conducted to determine the cause of death.
According to police accounts, the hotel manager, Moses Friday, reported that the student rushed to the reception to inform staff that the lecturer had collapsed following their encounter.
The police were immediately notified, and Dr. Ibikunle was transported to a hospital, where a doctor confirmed his death.
Dr. Ibikunle, reportedly married with children, is said to have checked into the hotel earlier that day with the student, who is in the department of Social Studies Education.
There are also unconfirmed reports suggesting the lecturer had consumed multiple energy drinks prior to the incident.
Police state that investigations are ongoing, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
