Plateau police mourn officer killed in ambush

The Plateau State Police Command has disclosed the death of Inspector Philemon Akawu, who was tragically killed Wednesday morning in an ambush by suspected hoodlums in the Bokkos Local Government Area.

Akawu, who was attached to the Department of Operations (DOPS) in Jos, had been deployed to Yelwa Nono village as part of a reinforcement team addressing heightened security concerns in the region.

Reports indicate that the officer was ambushed and killed in a bush near the security camp around 7:30 a.m. while carrying out his duties.

Upon receiving news of the incident, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Bokkos promptly visited the scene. The DPO oversaw the recovery of Inspector Akawu’s body, which has since been deposited at the Luna Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

The Plateau State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the attack and is actively working to identify and apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime.
