Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North, has said it is a matter of decency and self-respect for Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, to inform Governor Monday Okpebholo before visiting Edo State.
Oshiomhole made the statement on Friday during an interview on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme. He emphasised that when prominent figures like Obi plan visits, especially to public institutions, it is appropriate to notify the state authorities.
His comment follows Governor Okpebholo’s warning last week that Obi must obtain security clearance before entering the state, linking the former presidential candidate’s recent visit to a security breach that allegedly led to the deaths of three people.

The governor’s stance has sparked public backlash, with critics accusing him of attempting to intimidate political opponents.
Oshiomhole added that the school Obi intended to visit is fully funded and managed by the Edo State Government, reinforcing the need for proper protocol.
“Let’s face it; the property of the Edo state government is entrusted in the hands of the Edo state governor. If anyone, myself included, goes to Enugu or Anambra when Obi was governor and I want to visit a government-owned facility, like a nursing institution, it is a matter of decency and self-respect to inform the authorities,” Oshiomhole said.
“Peter Obi was my colleague, and we knew each other very well. I liked him then, and I still do, but politically, we don’t agree. I do not subscribe to his views on certain matters.”
