Father on run after allegedly raping daughters in Minna

Date:

A man identified as Mohammed, also known as Mai Keke, is currently at large after allegedly raping his two young daughters, aged two and nine, in the Bosso area of Minna.

The shocking revelations have exposed a horrific pattern of abuse and a distressing cover-up by family members.

Investigations reveal that the girls had been subjected to their father’s sexual abuse for an extended period.

Disturbingly, initial attempts by the girls’ mother to shield Mohammed from exposure, citing fears of family stigmatisation, may have inadvertently worsened the situation.

The nine-year-old, aware of the abuse inflicted upon her two-year-old sister, remained silent due to threats from her father, who warned he would kill her if she spoke out.

The tragic situation was further compounded when a neighbor, upon learning of the abuse, also allegedly took advantage of the nine-year-old girl on multiple occasions.

According to sources, the father, implicated in similar acts, did not intervene.

While the girls’ grandmother reportedly pushed for authorities to be informed, the grandfather allegedly refused, stating he had “left everything to God.”

Officials from the Niger State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development have expressed their devastation.

Mary Yisa, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, and Rachel Twaki, Director of Social Welfare Services, confirmed that a case involving the father’s alleged rape of his two children was brought to their attention.

“The nine-year-old girl was shielding the whole thing until the girl was drawn closer,” Yisa explained.

“And we asked her why and she said she was told not to speak to anyone on it or she would die. We started counselling her and she opened up… The wife was shielding their father, and the whole situation further exposed the children to a neighbour who took advantage of it and molesting the nine-year-old.”

Makusuidi Suleiman, a Child Protection Officer with the Niger State Child Rights Protection and Enforcement Agency, confirmed that Mohammed is still being sought.

“The suspect is still at large,” he stated, adding that the agency is actively pursuing his arrest.

Kalejaiye Olasukanmi, Project Director for Strengthening Community Active Participation Against GBV (GPCI), emphasised the gravity of the situation.

“Incest is a crime in Nigeria and against humanity,” he declared, urging relevant agencies to act swiftly to apprehend Mohammed and ensure he faces the full force of the law.
