The national power grid experienced another collapse on Tuesday, with reports confirming a loss of power generation at approximately 1:39 pm.
By 1:00 pm, power generation had reached 2,711 megawatts, down from a previous peak of 3,631 MW. Earlier, at around 6:00 am, generation had peaked at 3,934.77 MW.
However, between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm, power generation dropped to zero.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed the disruption, describing it as a “partial disturbance” that occurred around 1:52 pm on November 5, 2024.
TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah explained that the disturbance was caused by a series of line and generator trippings, which led to instability in the grid. As a result, parts of the system experienced a partial disruption, although some sections of the grid were unaffected.
“TCN engineers are actively working to restore bulk power supply to the affected areas,” Mbah said. “Bulk power supply was restored to Abuja at 2:49 pm, and we are gradually bringing power back to other regions.”
She also offered an apology for any inconvenience caused to electricity customers.
This is the eighth time this year that the grid will be down.
