Kwara CP orders arrest of officers accused of extorting student

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has ordered the arrest of several police officers from the Anti-Cultism Unit following allegations that they extorted ₦200,000 from a student.

The victim, Taiwo Kayode Taye, a student at Federal Polytechnic, Offa, was reportedly detained and forced to transfer the money to an account named “Lucy Akor.”

According to reports, Taiwo was traveling to Osogbo when he was stopped in Erin-Ile town by the officers.

When he refused to unlock his phone, he was taken to the Ijagbo police division and later moved to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Ilorin, where he was allegedly coerced into making the payment.

Commissioner Ojo confirmed the incident to journalists on Tuesday, expressing his disappointment and anger over the officers’ conduct.

He vowed that a discreet investigation would be conducted and that justice would be served.

“I am extremely disappointed over the conduct of the concerned officers,” Ojo stated, emphasizing that he has ordered their immediate arrest and that necessary action will be taken against them.
