Thomas Partey granted bail in alleged multiple sexual offence charges

Date:

Former Arsenal star Thomas Partey has been granted following his appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Tuesday, where he faced six serious criminal charges — five of rape and one of sexual assault — relating to incidents allegedly involving three different women.

The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, with the Metropolitan Police initiating an investigation into the 32-year-old Ghanaian midfielder in February 2022 following a report of rape.

According to police documentation, the rape charges span across various dates: between April 21 and May 31, 2021; again in April to June 2021; as well as in December 2021, February 2022, and June 2022. The single count of sexual assault is connected to a reported incident in February 2022.

The Athletic reports that Partey was not required to enter a plea during the initial court session and has previously denied all allegations.

As part of the bail conditions, Partey must inform the police at least 24 hours in advance of any travel outside the UK and must avoid any direct or indirect communication with the complainants.

Currently linked with a potential free transfer to Spanish side Villarreal, Partey is expected to return to court on September 2 at the Old Bailey for further proceedings.

He arrived at court in a black vehicle accompanied by his legal team and chose not to speak to the press waiting outside.

Though the investigation into the allegations began in 2022, Partey continued to play for Arsenal until his contract expired in June 2025. The charges were officially filed against him on July 4.

Earlier this year, reports indicated Arsenal and Partey had held discussions about a possible contract renewal, but the two parties failed to reach an agreement.

During the 2024-25 season, Partey made 52 appearances for the Gunners. He joined the club in 2020 from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth €50 million (approximately £45.4 million or $58.7 million at the time).

Now nearing a move to Villarreal, Partey has already completed a medical with the Spanish side, who are also set to face Arsenal in a pre-season friendly at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.
