The Nigeria Police Force has expressed concern over a rising trend of police officers lobbying for special promotions.
This comes after the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission received unofficial requests from officers seeking to be elevated in rank.
According to a statement by the Force Spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force clarified that recent accelerated promotions for distinguished officers were part of a structured reward system, not the beginning of an indiscriminate special promotion scheme.

The promotions were granted to officers who met specific guidelines for outstanding performance, bravery, and professional excellence. The NPF emphasized that these promotions were based on merit and not arbitrary.
In response to what it called “misleading reports” from an online platform, the police force urged the public to disregard claims that it had initiated arbitrary promotions.
The NPF described these reports as “baseless” and “intended to undermine the integrity” of its promotion process, reiterating its commitment to transparency and due process.
Officers have been strictly cautioned against lobbying or trying to influence the promotion process through unofficial channels.
The Force stated that such behavior is unethical, goes against the principles of meritocracy, and will result in disciplinary action.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to a promotion system based on integrity, merit, and service. It urged all officers to remain dedicated, disciplined, and to continue performing their duties with distinction.
