WAEC temporarily withdraws 2025 WASSCE results over technical glitch

Date:

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily withdrawn the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates following the discovery of technical complications during the result release phase.

This development was disclosed on Thursday, August 7, 2025, through a statement issued by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs for the Council.

The suspension came after an internal review process flagged irregularities linked to the recently introduced paper serialization system, which had been rolled out to strengthen examination integrity and curb cheating.

“As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation already deployed by a national examination body. The paper serialization was carried out in Mathematics, English Language, Biology and Economics. However, an internal post result release procedure revealed some technical bugs in the results,” the statement said.

WAEC confirmed that it had temporarily restricted access to the 2025 WASSCE results on its online portal, citing the need to correct the anomalies without compromising the integrity of the examination process.

The Council emphasized that this step aligns with its values of professionalism, equity, and global best practices in education assessment.

“We extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public. We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter with transparency and urgency within the next twenty four hours,” WAEC said.

Students who had already accessed their results before the technical issues were discovered have been urged to revisit the platform after 24 hours to confirm any updates or corrections.

Reaffirming its commitment to excellence and transparency, WAEC called on the public to continue to trust its processes and dedication to serving the educational needs of Nigerian students.
