Aviation sector unions under the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) have decided to put on hold an indefinite strike that was initially scheduled to begin on Monday, following constructive progress in salary discussions with relevant government bodies.
The suspension was announced in a joint statement on Friday, signed by union leaders AbdulRasaq Saidu (ANAP), Odinaka Igbokwe (NUATE), Frances Akinjole (ATSSSAN), and Alo Lawrence (AUPCTRE).

According to the communiqué, the unions had been compelled to issue a strike notice due to persistent challenges, but emerging developments—such as the receipt of a “no objection” letter from the Budget Office directed to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission—had opened a path toward resolution.
They revealed that NAMA’s management had given assurances that the new wage structure would be reflected in the August salary payments.
“In order to demonstrate good faith, our unions have taken the decision to defer the strike action scheduled to commence on Monday 11th August, 2025, pending the state of affairs on the subject matter at the end of August, 2025,” the joint statement read.
The workforce was urged to remain optimistic as dialogue continues with the authorities.
Previously, the unions had issued a seven-day ultimatum beginning July 31, citing an eight-month delay in implementing the revised salary structure.
The strike would have led to a nationwide disruption of aviation services from August 11 if no progress had been made.
