The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has reported a notable drop in the country’s fuel usage for June 2025, with total evacuation recorded at 1.44 billion litres.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Authority’s Director of Public Affairs, George Ene-Ita, clarified that the daily consumption average stood at 48 million litres — correcting earlier media claims of 38.94 million litres.

According to him, “the total fuel evacuation for June was precisely 1,440,768,129 litres,” which represents a 16.42% fall compared to May’s 1,768,812,804 litres — a difference of over 290 million litres.
This translates to a daily average of 48,025,604 litres when the month’s total is divided by 30 days.
The breakdown showed mixed trends across petroleum products. The supply of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, rose slightly by 1.73% to 432.18 million litres from 424.83 million litres in May.
However, diesel distribution fell sharply by 23.23%, from 552.35 million litres in May to 424.06 million litres in June.
Household Kerosene (HHK) saw both supply and distribution contract by 13%, with June figures at 7.79 million litres, down from nearly 9 million litres in May.
Automotive gasoline supply recorded the steepest fall, dropping almost 48% from 72.36 million litres in May to 37.66 million litres in June, while distribution declined by 16.54% in the same period. The report also detailed truck-out volumes to various states.
Lagos led with 205.66 million litres, followed by Ogun (88.69 million litres), the Federal Capital Territory (77.51 million litres), and Oyo (72.81 million litres).
The data reflects ongoing supply and distribution challenges in the petroleum sector, which continue to shape national fuel consumption patterns. The NMDPRA reaffirmed its commitment to working with industry players to improve distribution and ensure uninterrupted fuel availability nationwide.
