Gov’t pardoned Ibom Air passenger after failing to prosecute KWAM 1 – Falana

Date:

Human rights activist Femi Falana, SAN, has disclosed that the Federal Government’s decision to pardon Ibom Air passenger Comfort Emmanson was a direct result of its refusal to properly prosecute Fuji star Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Falana claimed that the government lost the “moral authority” to prosecute other disruptive air passengers after its handling of the KWAM 1 incident.

He expressed concern that the government had hastily accepted KWAM 1’s apology and granted him a pardon over his recent actions at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, all before allowing the police to conclude their investigation.

This, according to Falana, created a precedent that ultimately compelled the government to drop the case against Emmanson.

“Since citizens have equal rights, obligations, and opportunities before the law, the Federal Government will henceforth be accused of subjecting any unruly passenger to discriminatory treatment on the ground that KWAM 1 was ‘pardoned’ without any criminal trial whatsoever,” he said.
