Osun Govt Confirms Arrest of Head of Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad

Date:

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of Moses Lohor, the Head of the State’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, along with his team, for attempted murder of Wakeel Nurudeen Iyanda Alowonle, the Chairman of the Osun State Transport Management System.

The confirmation came from Samuel Ojo, the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, following a private meeting with Governor Adeleke and the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Umar Abba.

The meeting was also confirmed in a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

The incident that sparked the crisis occurred on Monday night when officers from the Osun State Police Command Anti-Kidnapping Squad, under Lohor’s leadership, allegedly shot Wakeel Nurudeen Iyanda Alowonle, the Chairman of the Osun State Transport Management System.

The police claimed Alowonle was shot after attempting to flee arrest when a pistol and ammunition were reportedly discovered in his car.

However, the state government, in a statement released Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, labeled the shooting as a suspected case of murder.

The statement further revealed that Alowonle was shot in the abdomen while in police custody following his arrest over a domestic dispute. He is currently on life support at the Osun State Teaching Hospital in Osogbo.

Ojo emphasised that the police authorities considered Lohor’s actions to be unprofessional, illegal, and in violation of operational protocols. He also confirmed that Lohor and his team had been relocated to Abuja for further investigation.

“We can confirm that the police leadership has taken swift and decisive action on this matter. A clear directive has been issued by the Inspector General of Police, and the Governor has instructed us to ensure that justice is served,” Ojo stated.
