Man hacks 56-year-old to death in Ogun

Date:

A man identified as Olawale Famini has been arrested for allegedly hacking a 56-year-old man, Abura Godwin, to death in the Idiroko area of Ogun State.

BREAKING gathered that the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased’s stepson, Okelue Daniel, who raised the alarm about the incident said he suddenly heard a noise in the next building where his stepfather was and after checking, he saw the suspect hitting the victim with a cutlass.

He explained that neighbors rushed out to rescue the victim but the situation still didn’t turn out well.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident said Daniel, who was frightened by the incident, ran out of their building, raising an alarm to seek help.

Odutola said, “At approximately 2:45 PM (on Sunday), one Okelue Daniel, a 17-year-old male residing at Bebe Road, Ajegunle, Idiroko, reported the case at the Idiroko Police Division.”

According to her, Daniel stated that earlier in the day, at around 1:40 AM, he heard his stepfather, Abura Godwin, living in the same house with his wife, groaning and pleading, ‘What did I do? Why are you hitting me with a cutlass?’

“Alarmed by the noise, Daniel peered through the window of their unfinished three-storey building and witnessed a man, identified as ‘Baba Segun,’ attacking his stepfather with a cutlass in a neighboring house.”

She said after Daniel raised the alarm, “Sympathisers assisted in rescuing the injured victim and rushed him to the General Hospital, Idiroko, for medical attention.

“However, the hospital declined to admit the victim, and he was taken back home, where efforts were made to attend to him. Tragically, the victim succumbed to his injuries (died) at approximately 5:00 AM in his residence.”

Odutola added that police detectives were afterward drafted to the scene of the incident, took photographs of the deceased, and transported the body to the General Hospital morgue in Ilaro for an autopsy.

She said, “Two suspects, Olawale Famini (alias Baba Segun), a 20-year-old male, and one Mrs. Fafunmi Surana, a 65-year-old female, have been arrested in connection with the case.”

She added that investigations are still ongoing.
