Senate confirms Oluyede as COAS

The Senate has officially confirmed the appointment of Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

The confirmation came after the Senate adopted the report from the Committee on Army regarding Oluyede’s screening, which was presented during the plenary session on Tuesday, December 3.

Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua (APC-Katsina), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, shared that the committee was thoroughly impressed with Oluyede’s credentials, highlighting his exceptional understanding, accomplishments, and record of excellence.

Lieutenant General Oluyede had been serving as acting Chief of Army Staff following the illness and eventual death of the previous COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
