U.S. Embassy Introduces New Guidelines for Nigerian Visa Applicants

Date:

Starting January 1, 2025, the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria will implement new procedures for immigrant visa applicants, requiring them to make at least two visits to the Consulate General in Lagos during the application process.

This update was shared by the embassy on its official X page on Tuesday

The announcement stated, “For applicants with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, you will be required to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during the immigrant visa process.”

The embassy explained that this change is aimed at better preparing applicants for their visa interviews and reducing delays in processing.

According to additional details provided on the embassy’s website, the first visit will be for an ‘In-Person Document Review’ with a consular staff member.

This step ensures that applicants are fully prepared for their interviews and helps identify any missing documents in advance, thus minimizing delays.

The second visit will involve the actual visa interview with a Consular Officer. The National Visa Center (NVC) will schedule this appointment.

Applicants who fail to complete the In-Person Document Review before their visa interview will need to reschedule their interview.

This revised process is designed to streamline visa procedures and make the application experience more efficient for applicants.
