An Allied Air Cargo aircraft, registered 5N-JRT, experienced a tyre burst and skidded off Runway 22 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Wednesday.
As a result, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) temporarily closed the runway.
The aircraft, which was arriving in Abuja, encountered the incident during landing.

Thankfully, all passengers and crew members onboard were safely evacuated without any injuries.
The runway closure caused significant disruptions, leading to delays in several departing flights as authorities worked to clear the area.
FAAN confirmed the incident in a statement issued by Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.
Orah stated, “At 10:05 am on December 11, 2024, an Allied Air Cargo aircraft with registration number 5N-JRT skidded off Runway 22 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, with five people on board.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. All individuals were safely evacuated and taken to the FAAN clinic for further checks.”
Emergency response teams and accident investigators are currently at the scene. FAAN has assured the public that the runway is being cleared and will reopen as soon as possible.
The agency also expressed gratitude to the aviation community and the public for their patience and understanding during the incident.
