Ganduje: Police Allegedly Intensify Search for Gov. Yusuf’s Spokesperson Despite Court Ruling

Date:

A team of 40 Special Detectives from Abuja is reportedly still searching for Governor Abba Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, following the controversy surrounding the suspension of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sources claim that the detectives were dispatched on alleged orders from Ganduje, who petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over the rift within his local ward in Dawakin-Tofa, accusing Dawakin-Tofa of being behind the political turmoil.

Ganduje’s suspension from his own ward reportedly became a point of contention, with Dawakin-Tofa allegedly orchestrating the fallout.

Family members confirmed that a plainclothes team of detectives had been conducting surveillance around Dawakin-Tofa’s residence since Monday.

According to a relative who wished to remain anonymous, the detectives raided the residence multiple times, unsettling Dawakin-Tofa’s family and causing panic in the neighborhood.

Despite a court order restraining the IGP and other security agencies from arresting or harassing Dawakin-Tofa, the IGP’s special unit has continued their search for the spokesperson.

The court order, issued by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of the Kano State High Court, prohibits further attempts to apprehend Dawakin-Tofa until a hearing on his fundamental rights, scheduled for January 22, 2025.

The tension between Ganduje and Dawakin-Tofa stretches back nearly a decade to 2015, when Ganduje, as governor-elect, allegedly ordered the arrest of Dawakin-Tofa due to his opposition during the gubernatorial election.

Recently, Ganduje accused Dawakin-Tofa of orchestrating the suspension that led to his removal from the APC by local ward executives.

Reports suggest that the 40-man police team, assigned to the IGP Monitoring Unit, was dispatched to Kano to arrest the governor’s spokesperson.

Efforts to contact the Police Public Relations Officer at the National Headquarters were unsuccessful.
