In a bold move aimed at addressing land management issues in the capital, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has ordered the immediate revocation of 762 land plots in Abuja due to non-payment of Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) fees.
The affected plots are located in the high-profile Maitama II District, home to influential political figures, business elites, and several corporate entities.
Alongside this, Wike has issued a two-week ultimatum to 614 additional landowners with outstanding payments, warning that their Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O) will be revoked if fees remain unpaid.
This sweeping action marks a significant crackdown on landowners who have failed to comply with payment regulations in the FCT.
Among those impacted are some of Nigeria’s most notable political figures. The Muhammadu Buhari Trust Foundation, established by the former president, former Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen, and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State are all affected.

Former governors Rochas Okorocha, Seriake Dickson, and Ben Ayade also face revocation, alongside prominent federal lawmakers such as Dino Melaye, Shehu Sani, Enyinnaya Abaribe, and Barnabas Gemade.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) issued a statement on Thursday explaining that the revocations stem from the failure of the landowners to pay their outstanding C-of-O fees after the expiration of the grace period.
The FCTA emphasized that the actions were taken in accordance with Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which grants the Minister of the FCT the authority to revoke land rights for breaches, including non-payment of fees.
Wike’s decision is seen as a firm step towards ensuring better compliance with land use regulations and preventing the misuse of prime property in Abuja.
It also highlights the government’s commitment to holding accountable both powerful political figures and corporate entities in managing land resources in the capital.
