The Nigerian Army’s Joint Task Force in the Northwest, Operation Fansan Yamma, has denied allegations of mistakenly bombing civilians in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
In a statement released on Monday night by Lt.-Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for the operation, the army described the reports as misleading and urged the public to verify information from credible sources to prevent misinformation and unnecessary panic.
The statement emphasised that military operations are guided by thorough intelligence and reconnaissance missions to ensure precision and avoid civilian casualties.
“This rigorous process is particularly important when targeting groups, like the Lakurawa terrorist organisation, as it aims to ensure precision and protect civilian lives,” Abdullahi stated.
He warned that terrorist groups might spread disinformation to undermine military successes and called for caution regarding unverified claims.
The statement clarified that the targets in the areas of Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa were positively identified as being associated with the Lakurawa terrorist group, reinforcing the legitimacy of the military action.
The army reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards in its operations to protect lives and maintain peace in the region.
