RTEAN unveils 50% FG transport subsidy across 12 states

Date:

The Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has unveiled a revised fare structure for travel across 12 states, reflecting the 50% transport subsidy introduced by the Federal Government.

This initiative is part of a broader partnership aimed at easing travel costs during the holiday season.

RTEAN is one of five transport bodies collaborating with the government under the scheme.

Other partners include the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Association of Luxurious Bus Owners of Nigeria (ALBON), Good is Good Motors (GIGM), and the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO).

These organizations formalized their commitment to the program through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Government.

Since the palliative launched on December 24, 2024, both RTEAN and GIGM have taken the lead in implementing the initiative.

The program also complements the government’s free rail services, which began on December 20, 2024, and will run throughout the festive period.

Designed to alleviate the financial strain of travel during the Yuletide, the subsidy covers half of travelers’ fares. For instance, the new fare list approved by RTEAN’s National General Secretary, Yusuf Ibrahim, outlines the following rates:

Abuja to Asaba or Akwa: N17,500

Abuja to Abakaliki: N12,500

Abuja to Dutse: N7,500

Lagos to Benin: N7,500

Lagos to Onitsha, Katsina, or Lafia: N15,000

Lagos to Bauchi or Jigawa: N12,500

Lagos to Kebbi or Yola: N20,000

These routes represent key corridors assigned to RTEAN under the scheme, providing relief to Nigerians traveling between December 24, 2024, and January 5, 2025.
