19 suspects arrested over cult clash in Ondo

Date:

On Tuesday, officers from the Ondo State Police Command apprehended 19 people in connection with cult violence that erupted in Owo, the state’s Owo Local Government Area headquarters.

According to the state’s newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, those found guilty will face the full force of the law.

The police commissioner told the media during an evaluation of the conflicts in the historic town that all of the culprits in Monday’s cult clash had been apprehended.

Five persons were on Monday killed in the cult war, after which Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the community.

Afolabi stressed that the on-the-spot assessment was necessary to monitor compliance with the curfew imposed on the town by the state government.

The commissioner noted that his men had restored peace in the town, stating that all the affected areas visited by his team were now calm.

“Currently, we have 19 suspects in our custody and our records confirm four deaths. For peace-loving citizens, we assure them of a conducive environment.

“Wherever they go, we will track them down, and the law will catch up with them. However, for those who hate peace, they will not find it easy with us.
