Court orders arrest of two NSCDC officers over alleged theft, court absence

Date:

A Senior Magistrate Court in Gusau, Zamfara State, has issued an arrest warrant for two officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) for failing to appear at a court hearing.

The decision was made by Magistrate Aminu Sani after the plaintiff’s counsel, Barrister Surajo Garba Gusau, highlighted that the officers’ absence had led to unnecessary delays in the ongoing trial.

The two officers, along with three others, are facing charges related to the burglary and theft of property belonging to Yusha’u Aliyu, the plaintiff in the case.

The defendants include personnel from the Zamfara Urban and Regional Planning (ZUREP) alongside the NSCDC members.

Barrister Gusau vehemently opposed the defense’s attempt to have the case dismissed, emphasizing that civil servants are subject to legal prosecution like any other citizen, with the exception of certain high-ranking officials such as the President, Vice President, Governors, and their Deputies under Nigerian law.

The case, which has already experienced delays due to the absence of the accused officers, is now scheduled for further rulings on January 15, with the court expected to review the defense’s request for dismissal.
