Major Shakeup in Army as COAS Appoints New PSOs, GOCs, Others

 Strategic appointments has been made by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede naming new General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), Corps Commanders, and a new Commander for the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF). 

This move is aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness and improving administrative efficiency.

The newly appointed General Officers Commanding (GOCs) are Major General OT Olatoye, who transitions from the Nigerian Army School of Infantry to Headquarters 82 Division/Joint Task Force (JTF) South East Operation Udoka (OPUK) as GOC 82 Division and Commander of JTF OPUK, and Major General EF Oyinlola, who moves from the Department of Military Secretary to Headquarters 3 Division as GOC 3 Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH).

Other General Officers Commanding (GOCs) whose acting appointments have been confirmed include Major General AGL Haruna, appointed as GOC 7 Division and Commander of Sector 1 JTF North East Operation Hadin Kai, and Major General IA Ajose, appointed as GOC 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2 JTF North West Operation Fasan Yanma.

Major General GM Mutkut has been posted from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre to Headquarters Multinational Joint Task Force in N’Djamena as the Force Commander, while Major General GO Adeshina is redeployed from Headquarters Nigerian Army Signals to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, where he has been appointed Director General.

Additionally, several senior officers have been appointed as Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) at the Army Headquarters: Major General LA Fejokwu, previously with the National Defence College, is now appointed Chief of Administration (Army) in the Department of Army Administration; Major General GU Chibuisi, formerly of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, has been appointed Chief of Civil Military Affairs in the Department of Civil Military Affairs; and Major General AS Ndalolo, also from the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, has been appointed Chief of Training (Army) in the Department of Army Training.

Other appointments include Major General OS Abai, who has been moved from the Department of Army Training to the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation, where he is now appointed Chief of Transformation and Innovation. Major General JH Abdussalam, previously at Headquarters 6 Division, has been reassigned to the Department of Special Services and Programmes and appointed Chief of Special Services and Programmes.

Major General EI Okoro has been redeployed from the Department of Army Logistics to the Department of Military Secretary, where he has been appointed Military Secretary (Army).

Additionally, Major General MC Kangye has been moved from Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery to Defence Headquarters as the Director of Media Operations.

Senior officers appointed as Corps Commanders include Major General OC Ajunwa, who transitions from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre to Headquarters Nigerian Army Armour Corps as Commander, and Major General HT Wesley, who moves from the Department of Special Services and Programmes to Headquarters Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, where he has been appointed Commander.

Major General TT Numbere has been transferred from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre to Headquarters Nigerian Army Engineers, where he has been appointed Commander.

Major General NC Ugbo has been moved from the Department of Civil Military Affairs to Headquarters Nigerian Army Signals, where he has been appointed Commander. Major General ZL Abubakar transitions from the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation to Headquarters Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery, where he has been appointed Commander.

Major General AP Oguntola has been transferred from the Nigerian Army College of Education Science and Technology to Headquarters Nigerian Army Education Corps, where he has been appointed Corps Commander.

Other senior officers affected by the redeployment include Major General JO Sokoya, who has been appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Army Training Centre; Major General UM Alkali, appointed Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria; and Major General FS Etim, who moves from the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation to the Nigerian Army School of Infantry as Commandant.

Major General AB Mohammed has been redeployed from the Department of Army Operations to Depot Nigerian Army, where he has been appointed Commandant.

Other newly appointed senior officers include Major General IE Ekpenyong, who has been appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering, and Major General AO Adegbite, appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport. Additionally, Brigadier General AM Umar has been redeployed from the Army War College Nigeria to the Warrant Officers Academy, where he has been appointed Commandant, among other appointments.

A statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu said, “The Chief of Army Staff has directed all newly appointed senior officers to bring renewed vigour, dedication and commitment to their duties, particularly while ensuring the sustenance of the ongoing onslaught against terrorism, insurgency and other threats to national security.

“He equally charged them to ensure that the welfare of troops remained paramount as they assumed their new appointments.

“The reshuffling underscores Nigerian Army’s commitment to ensuring robust and dynamic leadership structure capable of addressing emerging security challenges.”
