Fire guts Focus Holiday hotel in Abuja

Date:

A destructive fire has ravaged the Focus Holiday Inn, a high-end hotel located in the Garki area of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The fire, which erupted around 3:00 AM, quickly spread from one section of the building and consumed the three-story structure.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing thick smoke billowing from the hotel, as fire crews scrambled to control the blaze.

Emergency personnel from the fire service are currently on the scene, working tirelessly to contain the flames. Fortunately, as of the latest updates, no casualties have been reported.

This fire adds to a worrying trend of increasing fire incidents across Abuja. In September 2023, part of the Supreme Court building caught fire, and just last year, a telecommunications facility in Maitama was completely destroyed by flames.

More recently, in November, a popular fitness center in Gwarinpa also fell victim to a devastating fire.

In addition to these fire outbreaks, the city has also witnessed several building collapses, raising concerns over safety standards in the Federal Capital Territory.

Authorities are urging a review of safety measures in both private and public infrastructure as they continue their investigations into the cause of the Focus Holiday Inn blaze.
