Ex-DSS boss, Ejiofor urges Tinubu to free IPOB’s Nnamdi Kanu

Date:

Mike Ejiofor, a former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), has called on President Bola Tinubu to unconditionally release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Ejiofor, speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Thursday, emphasized the need for a political approach to address the growing insecurity issues in the Southeast region.
Ejiofor argued that a political solution, rather than continued confrontation, could help resolve the tensions in the area.

He expressed concern over the increasing violence, with unknown gunmen killing innocent civilians in the Southeast, claiming to be acting in support of Kanu’s cause.

Highlighting the urgency of the matter, Ejiofor urged the Tinubu administration to prioritize security challenges across the country, especially in the Southeast, where the unrest has intensified.

His comments add to the ongoing debate about the best approach to resolving the region’s security crisis while seeking a peaceful resolution for Kanu’s detention.

According to Ejiofor: “We should prioritize the issue of our security challenges. There are some that are political, while others require kinetic and non-kinetic approaches.

“For instance, we have achieved a lot in the Northeast, until recently when we started having some isolated cases.

“Look at the Northwest, where you have the issue of Lukarawa, and after their initial appearance, much has not been heard from Lukarawa. And that is because of the activities of both intelligence and security forces.

“When you come to the Southeast, I think the government should take the initiative to find a political solution to the issue in the Southeast, especially with regard to the unknown gunmen and Nnamdi Kanu.

“I will strongly appeal to the government to use this opportunity to unconditionally release Kanu and let us see, because people who are killing innocent people are claiming to be fighting for Kanu, and he has condemned these actions.

“He has spoken out against the sit-at-home and said he’s not in support of it. How can you be fighting for people and, at the same time, destroy their economy and their means of livelihood?”
