Many dead, scores injured in Niger tanker explosion

On Saturday morning, a horrific tanker explosion occurred at Dikko Junction on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, killing numerous people and injuring many more. The explosion happened at ten a.m.

According to accounts, the sad tragedy occurred when a throng gathered to grab fuel from the overturned truck. The following bomb resulted in a significant mortality rate, albeit the precise number of deaths has yet to be ascertained.

Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Niger State, Kumar Tsukwam, revealed to news men “Investigations are ongoing, and the total number of victims will be disclosed in due course.”

Responding to the incident, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, voiced deep worry over the state’s periodic tanker explosions.

He emphasized the urgent need for enhanced safety standards and public education to prevent such calamities.
