Why I pardoned Capitol riot offenders – Trump reveals

Date:

U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed his decision to pardon everyone engaged in the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol in Washington.

Trump signed the accompanying order in the White House in Washington, only a few hours after his inauguration on Monday.

Recall that on January 6, 2021, Trump supporters forcefully invaded the U.S. Congressional seat in Washington, where the Republican’s election defeat to Joe Biden was scheduled to be verified.

A crowd incited by Trump, who held a rally to promote claims of election fraud, violently entered the building, killing five people.

However, during a press conference on Tuesday announcing the AI investment, Trump was asked by reporters about his sweeping pardons for the roughly 1,500 people charged in connection with the U.S. Capitol riot in January 2021.

The U.S. leader said those offenders have served years in jail, adding that their lives have been ruined.

“Only for one reason: they have served years in jail,” Trump said. “Murderers don’t even go to jail in this country.”

“Their lives have been ruined,” he added.
