Kogi students allegedly attacks secondary school teacher

Date:

In a shocking turn of events, some students of Ebira Muslim Community College Okengwe (EMCCO), located in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State, are accused of violently assaulting a teacher, Mr. Muktar Salihu, leaving him in a coma.

The incident, which reportedly occurred within the school premises, involves students from the Senior Secondary 2 (SS2) class, who are believed to have been acting under the influence of a cult-like group.

According to sources, the students humiliated and assaulted the Physics teacher as part of a broader effort to seize control of the school’s administration.

The alleged ringleader of the group, Abdulbatin, is said to be the son of a prominent traditional ruler in the region—the Opokitipo of Esusu clan in Okengwe district.

This has raised concerns about the potential influence and protection the group may enjoy.

At the time of this report, Mr. Salihu is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital after falling into a coma following the brutal assault.

In response to the incident, several of the school’s faculty members have called on authorities to intervene.

“We urge the State Ministry of Education, the State Education Board, the security agencies, and other relevant authorities to take immediate action to address this situation, bring the perpetrators to justice, and prevent future incidents,” one teacher said.

The District Police Officer (DPO) has reportedly intervened, instructing the local traditional ruler to ensure his son’s presence for questioning by tomorrow.

As investigations continue, there is growing concern about the increasing power of student groups in local schools and their impact on school discipline and safety.
