The Federal Government has announced a significant surge in revenue, generating approximately N2.4 billion in 2024 through marriage contracts via the Ministry of Interior’s marriage registry.
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, made this revelation during a media interaction in Abuja on Tuesday.
In addition to the marriage registry earnings, the ministry also reported over N3.2 billion in revenue from expatriate quota applications, contributing to an impressive 150 percent overall increase in revenue for the year.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo further disclosed that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) successfully repatriated 828 foreigners back to their home countries in 2024.
Although the specific reasons for the repatriations were not detailed, the Minister confirmed that the process was carried out by the NIS.
The reported increase in revenue and repatriations underscores the Ministry of Interior’s role in not only facilitating immigration procedures but also contributing significantly to the government’s financial standing.
