Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, the most followed person on Instagram with over 639 million followers, has once again embraced Afrobeats. On Wednesday, Ronaldo posted a video on his Instagram with Asake’s hit song “Active” from his latest album Lungu Boy playing in the background.
Within four hours, the video went viral, amassing 18.7 million views, 1.2 million likes, and over 20,000 comments. This marks the second time Ronaldo has publicly shown love for Afrobeats, following a March 2023 post featuring his kids dancing to Nigerian artist Rema’s hit song “Calm Down.”
Ronaldo, now 39, used Asake’s track to promote new content on his YouTube channel, which garnered 313,000 views and over 90,000 likes in just three hours. His YouTube channel, launched on August 21, has skyrocketed in popularity. Within a record-breaking 90 minutes of its debut, it hit one million subscribers—an unprecedented feat. He also reached 10 million subscribers in under 24 hours, setting another milestone.
Ronaldo’s YouTube channel, offering glimpses into his personal and family life alongside interviews with famous personalities, has grown to an impressive 62 million subscribers in just over two months.
