Anambra lawmaker found dead on second Niger bridge following abduction

The lifeless body of Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, has been discovered on the Second Niger Bridge.

Azuka had been abducted and brutally attacked by gunmen on Christmas Eve while traveling home for the holiday festivities.

The kidnapping took place on Ugwunapampa Road in Onitsha, Anambra State, where Azuka was seized by armed assailants.

In a statement issued Thursday, Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson for Anambra, confirmed that the legislator’s decomposing body was located on the new bridge.

“In the early hours of today, 6/2/2025 at the Second Niger Bridge, the joint security team comprising of police and AVG operatives on a mission to rescue abducted Hon. Azuka, state house of assembly member representing Onitsha North, regrettably found his lifeless body at the scene.

“As soon as I get more details, I will keep you updated, as the joint security team has taken over the scene and operation is ongoing for the possible arrest of the suspects involved,” the statement reads.

Azuka was a member of the Labour Party (LP). In November 2023, the appeal court affirmed his election after removing a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker who was earlier declared winner of the poll.
