Uncertainty Surrounding Cabinet Members’ Future – Daniel Bwala

Date:

Title: Cabinet Reshuffle Imminent: President Tinubu Holds Final Say, Says Bwala

As the anticipated cabinet reshuffle by President Bola Tinubu draws near, Daniel Bwala, former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, emphasized that it is solely the president’s prerogative to decide which ministers will stay or leave. According to Bwala, any claims by others regarding knowledge of who will be retained or dismissed are purely speculative.

Bwala stated, “What you must always judge with government is that at every given time, the motive of the government, the intention of the government, and the accountability it brings to the people should be factors for assessment—not necessarily some extraordinary event. Only the president knows who will go and who will stay.”

He stressed that anyone claiming to have inside knowledge of the reshuffle is simply guessing. “Anybody else who tells you he knows who will go and who will stay is either second-guessing or is not being fair to himself,” Bwala added.

In addition to the looming reshuffle, there is a vacancy for the position of Presidential Spokesperson, previously held by Ajuri Ngelale, who recently stepped down due to family reasons. Rumors circulating suggest Bwala might be considered for the role. However, Bwala responded to the speculation, saying, “I am not aware of people tipping me for the job, but I’ve seen it on social media. Every Nigerian who believes in good governance should play their part, whether or not they are in government.”

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that the reshuffle is on the horizon. Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Onanuga noted that although no specific timeline has been set, President Tinubu is committed to reshuffling the cabinet.

Onanuga remarked that the current administration has made significant progress in transforming the economy, even if some members of the public remain unaware of these achievements. He stated, “The President has expressed his desire to reshuffle his cabinet, and he will do it. I don’t know whether it will happen before October 1, but it will surely be done.”
