The 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon once again saw East African dominance, with athletes from Kenya and Ethiopia securing top spots in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Kenya’s Edwin Kibet triumphed in the men’s race, crossing the finish line with an impressive time of 2:14:06.
This victory earned him the coveted $50,000 prize, marking his second win at the marathon after his debut victory in 2023. Last year, Kibet finished third, trailing behind his fellow Kenyan, Bernard Sang, who claimed the title with a time of 2:16:49.
In the women’s category, Ethiopia’s Guta Meseret Hirpa made her mark by clinching her first victory in the event, completing the race in 2:37:04.
The 42km race kicked off at Western Avenue, near the National Stadium in Surulere, and concluded with a thrilling finish at Eko Atlantic City on Victoria Island.
