Tinubu’s Respect for Seniority Evident in Kekere-Ekun’s Appointment as CJN, Claims Lado

Date:

Sen. Bashir Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, has expressed his approval of Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun’s appointment as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). In a statement released in Abuja on Thursday, Lado emphasized that her selection is a clear reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s respect for seniority and merit within the Judiciary.

Lado noted that Justice Kekere-Ekun’s appointment not only highlights her distinguished credentials but also underscores the President’s adherence to established guidelines for judicial appointments. He described this decision as part of Tinubu’s ongoing commitment to reforming the judiciary.

Since taking office, the President has demonstrated a strong resolve to create a judicial system that promotes the swift administration of justice, ensuring that all Nigerians have access to fair treatment under the law. Lado pointed to the recent appointment of 11 justices to the Supreme Court, which allows the apex court to finally operate with its full complement of 21 justices, as a significant achievement in this regard.

Furthermore, he mentioned President Tinubu’s approval of a bill to increase salaries for judicial officers, which is among various initiatives aimed at revitalizing the judiciary. Lado praised the 10th Senate for its steadfast support in implementing the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He concluded by acknowledging the Senate’s prompt screening and confirmation of the CJN, viewing it as a testament to their commitment to collaborating with the Executive Branch to deliver the promised benefits of democracy to the Nigerian populace.
