The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a groundbreaking step by officially launching its first-ever barracks in Yola, Adamawa State.
This move marks a major achievement in the agency’s ongoing efforts to prioritize the safety and well-being of its officers.
The ceremonial unveiling, which took place on Tuesday, was led by Mohammed Buba Marwa, the Chairman and CEO of the NDLEA. Marwa dedicated the new facility to President Bola Tinubu, acknowledging his unwavering support for improving the security of NDLEA personnel.
During the event, Marwa highlighted that the establishment of the barracks was a direct reflection of President Tinubu’s commitment to safeguarding the officers who have long faced life-threatening risks in their battle against drug trafficking and related criminal activities.
“For years, our officers have been traced to their homes and killed by individuals involved in the drug trade,” Marwa stated during his speech.

“This new facility will provide a much-needed secure environment for our dedicated officers, ensuring their safety as they continue to serve our nation.”
The state-of-the-art barracks, located along the Yola-Numan Road in Yola South Local Government Area, spans an impressive 18 hectares.
It is equipped with living quarters for senior, middle, and top-level personnel, along with essential facilities such as offices, interrogation and detention rooms, and a parade ground. The complex will serve as the base for the Adamawa State Command and Zone D headquarters of the NDLEA.
Marwa also revealed plans to replicate the Yola barracks across the country, aiming to bolster security for NDLEA officers nationwide.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, who served as the Special Guest of Honour.
Fagbemi praised the establishment of the barracks, calling it a clear demonstration of the federal government’s recognition and appreciation for the critical role played by NDLEA personnel in the fight against drug abuse.
“The battle against drug abuse is not just a fight for today, but for the future of Nigeria,” Fagbemi remarked, underscoring the importance of safeguarding those who work tirelessly to protect the country from the harmful effects of drugs.
