In a heart-wrenching incident in Gwargwada, Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), two victims have been shot dead by kidnappers due to a delay in the payment of ransom.
The victims, identified as Mohammed Danladi and Nasiru Yusuf, both natives of Gwargwada village, were abducted along with a herder and a woman at the Gwombe junction on the Gwargwada-Rubochi road on Wednesday.
According to Shuaibu Abdullahi, a relative of the victims, the kidnappers initially demanded N500,000 each for both victims. However, the families could only raise N500,000 for one ransom.

Abdullahi explained in a phone interview on Sunday that the kidnappers’ leader made contact on Friday, at which point the family informed him they could only meet half of the original demand. Tragically, the kidnappers had already killed both men by this time due to the delayed payment.
Following this, the kidnappers released the herder and the woman after receiving a combined N3 million ransom. The transaction reportedly took place in the Kotonkarfe forest in Kogi State, where the kidnappers had taken the victims.
The traditional ruler of Gwargwada, Ugbada Alhaji Hussaini Agabi Mam, confirmed the tragic deaths, stating that the two victims were returning from Rubochi when they were kidnapped.
“Unfortunately, the two young men were killed by their abductors simply because of the delay in paying the ransom they demanded,” Mam said.
While the families await the return of their loved ones’ remains, the bodies have not yet been recovered, as the victims were taken to Kotonkarfe forest.
It is understood that the chairman of Kotonkarfe has mobilized local hunters and vigilantes to search for the bodies, though they have yet to locate the victims’ remains.
